Ok I just read that Howard Shore won a Grammy for the TTT soundtrack which further supports my theory that many of the Oscar voters are stupid (he wasn't nominated for an Oscar). ...apparently, they figure that TTT is the same freakin' movie as FOTR. Hardly. A lot of people are figuring that Chicago will win the Best Picture, despite the fact that of all the movies to captivate the masses (and will continue to do so in the future) and that are nominated, it's TTT.....and a lot of people are expecting Martin Scorsese to win for Gangs of New York because he never has and is a marvelous director....but....Peter Jackson wasn't even nominated!!! (He didn't do publicity this year for himself.) There's more than one article lately about how the Oscars has turned into a publicity/popularity contest. Which basically it is.... Things I've noticed/considered: ~~I think that when considering who's the Best actors/actresses, the thing to do is try to picture anyone else in that particular role. If you can't figure out who could've played it, that person *deserves* the trophy. ~~People often don't consider ahead of what to wear. Example: Jennifer Connelly last year--since then, she's been wearing darker colors and brighter makeup which are highly complementary to her skin and hair. ~~There are some people to whom you can give an Oscar to anything they do. Jack Nicholson....Meryl Streep....Harrison Ford (he was back in my dreams the other night! )....Jude Law (ok I may not be objective here, but he is AWESOME! in everything I've seen him in)...um well others as well. Does anyone else have any other peeves about this year's nominations as well as any other comments? Donna

I've only heard some of the nominations to tell you the truth, not the whole lot. But I agree with your point that there are some people who seem to get oscars no matter what.

BTW: it's a pity they don't have the oscar for the sexiest evil guy isn't it? Cos CC would win hands down there.

I have to agree, TTT didn't get that much nominations, which they should have.
They should have at LEAST nominated PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE for crying out loud in Best Original Screenplay or Best Music. Paul Thomas Anderson deserves Best Director nominee, same thing with Lhurmann last year, which he wasn't even recognized for the brilliant Moulin Rogue, and Peter Jackson for TTT.
Same thing for Rules of Attraction one of the best screenplays I've ever read.
What happened to Jude Law in Road to Perdition? He is really good in that movie. Too bad technically they couldn't nominate Andy Serkis.
I don't mind Chicago nor The Hours winning.
I am also quite curious with Adaptation and About Schmidt Maybe Jack Nicholson will win, Best Actress is between Nicole, Renee and Julianne Moore.

Well I think that TTT deserves Best Picture! And so does Chicago... Too bad they can't tie for the award, really. But the Academy *might* (hopefully not) have a replay of last year, and give 'Best Picture' to an OK but not Great movie.. Pfft.
In my town, ever since Chicago started playing, the cinema has been packed with people. And loads of different people, teenagers, older people... It wasn't like that with TTT. รด.o
And, what, wasn't Titanic the last movie to get 13 nominations? Or something along those lines. So I think Chicago is more likely to get Best Picture..
But there IS still RotK to win it, hopefully the next year will be a bunch of crap movies.

I think I'll wait to see who wins and then decide whether or not I agree with them.

I've been an Oscar junkie for years, and I have to say I was disappointed with this year's nominees. It just isn't going to be an exciting race like the year Gladiator/Chocolat/Traffic etc were nominated for Best Picture because everyone knows who's going to win (Chicago). I also think that if Gladiator can win BP, so could have The Fellowship last year! There's rumours that The Return of the King will get it next year as a sort of consolation prize. That's pretty bad when you can predict a movie will win before it comes out!
Does anyone know who's hosting yet? I really hope it's no one stupid. Bring back Billy Crystal! He was/is the best presenter the Academy's ever had.

After last year, I've been really put off. They nominated the seizure-inducing Moulin Rouge for Best Picture last year and not Memento. However, I do agree with the nod to Elliot Goldenthal's score for Frida. His work is superb. <sarcasm>This year? Full of crap movies? Hello?! Come on... Bend It Like Beckham? Awesome! </sarcasm>

He's incerdibly funny, I just love the "Father of the Bride" movies, even "Bowfinger", I only saw it just to laugh at him. He's one of the best comedians ever, though I also love Billy Crystal.

the only thing i don't agree with for all these awards shows lately, for example, the brit awards,BAFTA awards,MTV and so on...
they all seem to be using it as some bloody public way to express their opinions about this bloody war!!!!!!
its driving me mad.honestly.isnt the brits supposed to be about MUSIC? and the baftas about FILMS AND TELEVISION? wtf does WAR come into this?? fair enough avril lavigne's band might have had "peace" written all over their tops, and people may have made several speeces about all this anti-war stuff, shows they care sure, but cant it be done somewhere else?! its getting a bit annoying now Sure i dont want a war but this isnt about my views on it,its about how these awards shows are being used more for people to voice their opinion (some are controversial) on this whole war thing. *sighs* it shouldn't be that way

Oooo I love Bowfinger!! What a classic. ;D
Steve Martin was on David Letterman last night and he told this cute story. He'd been recently in one of the NY hotels doing press for his "Bringing Down the House" movie, when a 7-year-old girl came up to him and asked, "Are you in a movie?" When he said yes, she replied, "Lucky!"

Wasn't it the same during the Grammies? A few people made anti-war comments as well as like t-shirts, or guitar straps letting everyone know their opinion on it. And when "Pearl Jam" were out here for concerts this last week they were talking about the anti-war marches in all the capital cities and urging people to go along.
