Kazaa. Nuff said.
On to review. The movie rocked. Much better than the first one and better than the book. About changes that make it better later cause I know what you really want to know. Did he pull it off? Hell yeah! CC is Tom and Voldemort, it`s amazing perfomance. Downside: short appearance. They cut off Tom`s monlogue where he spoofs Ginny, basically one minute Harry`s like "Gee Tom can`t you help me?" and another minute Tom`s like "Gee, harry I can`t I`m f*cking Voldemort, haven`t you figure it out already? Retard!" Or Kazaa file lacked of some frames but I don`t think so. Anyway, CC really has amazing range from virginal vulnerabilty of his opening scene in Diary to Voldemort I dunno how GOF is going to turn out without him playing the bastard cause he is Voldy! Not to mention amazing chemistry (not the slash fic kind) between him and Daniel, the kid is good in this movie but when he acts opposite CC he`s awesome, they are trully dynamic duo. It`s rare to see a hero and a villain work in such harmony. I think that the reason is that CC didn`t try to steal the show from Daniel (which Rupert tries to do by going over the top in order to grab viewers attention), he knew his place and obviously gave Tom character a lot of thought cause he hits all the right notes. Heck, even his face changes depending of Tom`s mood swings, at one point you think "he`s cute" at another that he`s ugly. Bloody brilliant. I`ll give it to naysayers that CC isn`t hot. I`d call him interesting and intriguing but the guy`s definitely eerie. OTOH, he looks intelligent unlike most of Next Big Things who have Highschool Drop-out written across their foreheads. Also, CC appears either younger or beyond his years in the movie again depending on Tom`s mood. At the beginning he`s totally inocent and vulnerable, very virginal in fact, in the end he`s tormented evil.Well, you`ll see. His charisma is Tobey Maguire kind in sense that it builds in as the movie progresses and he grows on you so when everything is over you`re wowed by his amazing performance and want to see more of him. OTOH, Lucius malfoy guy is in-your-face flashy charisma that takes you by storm from the first second, the whole package with long blond hair is so distinguished that you can`t forget him and since he closes the movie and sticks in mind because of that no wonder everyone`s talking about him and Tom/CC is underrated and in Lucius shadow. I like Lucius a lot but he is obvious villain from the moment you see him while Tom is unclear and doesn`t have dramatic introduction.
Changes that make the movie better: Mudblood scene has it that hermione bursts in tears and gets upset over what Draco has said to her which is great cause in the books she wasn`t upset which is weird to say the least. Tom casts anti-spider spell in Diary sequence which Harry learns and does in Aragog sequence. Nice touch. Ginny is awake in Chamber sequence and harry/Ginny shippers will have a blast cause there are touching moments like when dying harry says: Go Ginny, save yourself" and she`s like "No!" or when he holds her around her arms while flying with fawkess. Deathday is indeed out, yay! So is valentine, peeves, Lucius and Arthur fight.
All in all, don`t expect CCmania and screaming teengirls but he doesn`t need it, really. He`s great, his time will come, not with this movie cause there are too many characters and actors but as long as he makes right choices he`ll do great. I like the fact that he wanted to play Tom because he liked the character not just because he saw an opportunity and shortcut to megastardom.
Phew.
