now that we have a movie topic, and a book topic,i thought, since i'm into stuff like this,we should have one for theatre too. So tell me,what was the last thing you saw at the theatre? what did you think of it,and what are your favourite plays you have seen? Mine would have to be Blood Brothers, but i also like xmas pantomimes and stuff like that Also, have any of you actually BEEN in a play? share your stories it would be interesting to know I've been in a few Tomorrow im going to see a show called "The power of dance" at my local theatre, should be good,my friend is in it we used to go to the same dance class when we were younger, but never realised it,and now we hang around together at high school. That dance class is how i got into most of the plays. Alrighty then, post away

Oooo having been a theatre major I like this topic. The most recent shows I've seen onstage were The Lion King and a Riverdance-like troupe at UCLA (I think I saw these at about the same time). I remember little from TLK---it was just overwhelming....it was spectacular. The show I saw at UCLA was on a day I was subbing for a friend. An all-girl troupe, they were great. ;D The most recent show I've been in: Nick Tickle, Fairy Tale DetectiveThe show I had the most fun being onstage: Once On This Island---musical; I played the Little Girl/Young TiMoune----we all danced and sang onstage; it was bliss. Also, it was the show that everytime I came out and greeted my friends in the audience, their faces were shining. The show I had the most fun being backstage: Balm in Gilead---ahem. (I met my heart&soul. ). The show during which I connected with the most people: Gypsy---including: another . The show which was most overall exhausting, mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually: same as the one just above. The most popular show I was in: Winnie-the-Pooh.The show in which I was most seriously injured: The Fabulous Fable Factory---I ran around backstage so I could quickly come on again and I ended up falling about 9 feet down stairs. I rolled and rolled and rolled, but somehow my head never hit. I ended up with internal bleeding in my right knee. dream show/role: as Echo in Lee Blessing's Eleemosynary---metaphysics plays a big part in the play. I played the daughter who becomes the Nat'l Spelling Bee Champion. This show was over an hour away from me (down near you, Sampatigua) but I rode with my friend who played my mom. I actually took on the WORDY role just 2 weeks before Opening because the other girl wasn't working out. Shows I'd like to see in the future incl. Chicago---I mean after seeing it on the screen especially. I would've liked to have seen How to Succeed in Business....but when the show was here, Scott Baio was in Matthew Broderick's role, and I didn't want to see Scott Baio. Donna

What have I seen onstage lately?
As far as University of California, Riverside (for the people that have asked me what UCR stands for) productions are concerned I've seen: Laurie Anderson (performance art); The Women; and a couple student written plays.
At Cal Poly Pomona: The underground production of Lisistrata as "Liz Estrada."-- the idea was the same. Warring gangs (men) and the women who deprive them of... n/m... to get them to call a truce.
In L.A.: Contact (in 2001); Rent (ran through the Inland Empire last May); The Carman... I haven't been to anything much lately... as you can see.
Plays that I've been in:
Romeo and Juliet (Juliet understudy, Prince/ss); Twelfth Night (Ensemble); Pygmalion (Eliza); Student written (various)
The most fun was Romeo and Juliet.

Wow Donna, what a line-up Hmm, the last I saw... let me see. It's either the local Eve Ensler Girlthingy Monologues or "Rent". I also remember seeing "Medea". I had fun in all of these, though I had girl-fun in "Monologues" since that I saw it with friends, but "Rent" is wonderful too... though I saw it alone I did train for theater before I entered high school. I got an offer for apprenticeship, though but I chose commitment to school over that chance. I went to a Catholic high school, so mostly our plays were about Mother Mary and such, and I was NEVER casted as the Virgin. I was usually in the chorus, howling and stuff Oh, and I was also in a small production of "Jesus Christ Superstar". I thoroughly enjoyed that musical, I sang along the whole play before waiting for my stagetime. I've always wanted to play Mary Magdalene and sing out loud, "I DON'T KNOW HOW TO LOVE HIIIIMMMMM" College. No attachment to theater. The university theater group here has this reputation of having the worst 'hell week', which I refuse to be a part of. Oh well.

last play i saw was "the hobbit", an excellent performance, adapted well from the book, not to mention a brilliant set.
recently i've also seen.... *"an inspector calls".....i first read it at school and loved it so it was great to finally see it be performed *"romeo & juliet".....brilliant, and christian was amazing.
this year so far i'm going to see *"the woman in black" *"the lion king" *"rocky horror show" *"cats" *"dance of death"
yeah i've been in plays, in school mainly we did "joseph" as well as the usual christmas plays. and i went to a summer drama workshop once and the play we did there was cool, one that one of the organisers had written.

wow, a lot of you guys are into theatre and acting..am I the only one who has NO talent to speak of? but i am a part of the stage crew that run plays and productions at my school, so i understand the technical aspect of theatre rather than the actual acting..i like to be entertained, but i like knowing who makes the show come together..which are the effects ppl, the lighting, the set designers, the runners etc ... oh yeah..the actors too

My favourite play would have to be Chess. A lil' hard to follow the first time I saw it, but i was eight! I was in Once On This Island, Little Shop of Horrors, Romeo and Juliet, Tom Sawyer, West Side Story, and Charley and the Chocolate Factory.

Went and saw two plays in a row at my university theater, Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen and a play by a traveling French troupe -they were horrid and half the audience were high school kids dragged there by their teachers. Ghosts was alright, but I'm still not convinced student companies should try to do plays that are so heavy, not sure that's the word. Maybe that's because we don't have the greatest drama program, either.
I was one of the witches in Macbeth in high school, because two of the original witches got sick at the last minute. Ended up providing unwanted comic relief, but it was still fun. Fair is foul and foul is fair Or the other way around.
One play I really wanted to see was Sam Mendes' Othello. I was visiting my friend in Arizona when it came to Phoenix, but I didn't find out about it until it was too late. Was definitely not happy about it.

"Rubia Moon", what a nice name, pretty much like this Melanie Rae Thon's novel "Iona Moon". Are you planning to have the play produced? By the way, re JKR's permission, I wish you luck. Harry Potter is an industry in its own now... with the publishers and the movie producers, giving away rights ain't easy. But heck, you go girl. I love to think of titles though I rarely come up with very good ones... but then, let's see then. Maybe you can post a synopsis or something, and concepts of the story you want to highlight. By the way, to continue answering this thread, the plays that I want to see that I haven't seen: "Richard III", "Death of a Salesman", "Shopping and F*cking" (yes, there's such a play), any Noel Coward creation, especially "Private Lives", "Miss Saigon", "Les Miserables".... and I remember this controversial off-Broadway play that is suggestive that Jesus Christ and the Twelve Apostles are gay. I think this was two years ago, I can't remember the title, but I am really curious. Oh, and yes, maybe something written by a certain Christian Coulson called "The Fallen"
