Hey everyone I am just wondering if any of you has seen Paul Thomas Anderson's "Punch Drunk Love"? Haven't seen it, but PTA is one of those geniuses (he did "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia), and I need feedback from those who have seen it already. By the way, what do you guys think are the best films/movies in the year 2002? why oh why?

movies..movies..movies.. i didn't see that many movies..or rather many i remember vividly because i believe the movie that you most vividly remember is the best one you've seen..this year, save for CoS and TTT, i don't think i really liked any of the movies..but 2001, had really awesome movies..my favourite of them all: Ocean's 11, by far the coolest movie of that year! and it didn't help that Brad Pitt was in it ..

Well, my favorite movies from the past year are: COS, TTT, Road to Perdition, Chicago (saw it last night; didn't care for Richard Gere---thought Lucy Liu was, as usual, cool)...Catch Me If You Can.......even tho I just saw some of these, they're considered in the upcoming Oscars...sooo...whatever. As for the funniest, I greatly enjoyed the very beginning of Austin Powers Goldmember, and I really liked Undercover Brother. My favorite scenes: Gandalf's fight with the Balrog; Legolas :-*leaping on the horse (the shaftoflight version); Gollum's "dialogue;" any scene of Jude in Road to Perdition; again, the beg. scene of Goldmember; and the Chamber scene in COS, for numerous reasons. The movies I'm particularly looking forward to this year are the Matrix sequels and Return of the King; Legally Blonde 2, and Cold Mountain (with Jude, Nicole Kidman and Natalie Portman). Oh, and X-Men 2. That was in no particular order, btw. I think ROTK has to be first with me. I'm stocking my purse with Kleenex right now. Donna

I was pretty impressed to see that Eminem could act in "8 mile" until my friend pointed out that with the movie being loosely based on his life he might not be acting so much.....nonetheless it was pretty good.

Funny, I cannot remember much about 2002 movies... though I only saw "Amelie" last year. I love that movie.
Yes, "Goldmember" was funny... TTT, it's a real classic. I wouldn't say CoS is one of the greatest movies of all time... I guess that and the TSS falls under the "The Sound of Music" category, but then again, "The Sound of Music" is utterly different.
Oh heck, this reminds me that I didn't get to see too many Hollywood films last year since that I was exposed more to Euro films then. But I think that Hollywood is looking good this year... in this part of the globe anyway. I have yet to see "Chicago", "Gangs of New York", "The Hours", "Far From Heaven", "White Oleander", and of course, "Punch-Drunk Love"!

Hmmm...
"Y Tu Mama Tambien"-- although it was pretty raunchy... I liked it because it was a great way to treat some global issues.
On the Asian-American front "Better Luck Tomorrow" was pretty good. John Cho is SUCH a hottie!!!! There's a Left of Zed gig coming up in the next couple of weeks for all you other John Cho fans.
CoS was pretty good.
I'd list "The Count of Monte Cristo" because that's the way I thought the book should have gone. In the book Edmond turned horrible and kinda lecherous... he got with a girl less than half his age. (He was in his late 40s and she was still a teenager.)
"Chicago" was wonderful, but I think "Moulin Rouge" was better.
I think that's it for now.
I've got a question for you all: Which movies helped you in defining your identity? In other words, which movies (from any era) have become part of you or how you see yourself?
Mine have been "Dead Poets Society"; "A Knight's Tale"-- I identify with that movie's representation of Chaucer; "Almost Famous"; "Bridget Jones"; and "The Debut" (Filipino-American film).

I've got a question for you all: Which movies helped you in defining your identity? In other words, which movies (from any era) have become part of you or how you see yourself? Sampaguita....what an awesome question. Hmmm...... ~~ Star Wars is the first one that comes to mind. This is THE movie I think of when I think of movies that I lived thru growing up (I reallllly don't look my age--lol--you can ask Angela [right, Angela? ].....I remember watching the commercials for it on tv and KNOWING that somehow, that movie was *different*---the opening scene---shivers---and sitting in the backseat driving home after with an inward high in my soul. My brother and I gave away ALL of our original SW toys (except my stuffed squeaking R2-D2);....original action figure: a few dollars---Millenium Falcon: about $20---original Jawa action figure: now going for several hundred dollars---my first graders pointing to Natalie Portman's pic and telling me she's me: priceless. Also, regarding SW--if someone asks me about my favorite movie, I usually say "The Empire Strikes Back." ~~the Harry Potter movies--difficult to explain, but the fact that I have posters and pics relating to it/them all over my walls is probably reason enough. ~~the LOTR movies--realization of more than a decade-long dream come true for me (after reading the books). So that fact alone is probably enough to make an impact on one stitch of my identity. Also, I think it's amusing that someone who is aging so slowly, is small (was that me at the counter of the Prancing Pony? lol) is obsessed with jewelry, and can become invisible (people walk into me) is a main character in an epic movie. There are other reasons, too difficult to explain here, but again, the fact I have posters/pics of LOTR all over my walls is testament enough. I can't think of anything else now. I may later. Oh btw I forgot about Pirates of the Caribbean, Ned Kelly, and Calcium Kid. HULLO!! :)Donna

In other words, which movies (from any era) have become part of you or how you see yourself? good question. well a movie i've been watching since i was a few years old is "the neverending story" so i guess that. "et" is another movie i've been watching ever since i can remember and "the goonies" so i guess they've also had an impact on my life, alltho i'm not sure how they have had an impact. "lotr" is probablly a movie thats affected my life in terms of ever since i saw it my main interest has moved from music to movies. and there are oter movies that have affected me in some ways but i'm not sure how they've affected me

I love Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (mostly the Christian scenes; I've seen the movie five times, so I'm practically sick of it). Other favorites are Catch Me If You Can, Two Towers, and Attack of the Clones. I haven't seen The Hours yet. Is it any good (as a movie, I mean; I know Christian's good). ;D
