I spent 2 entire years taking English courses as an English major and then switched to theatre. I don't know how it is elsewhere, but at my state university, it's easier to change from one specific major to another than to enter "Undeclared" and then take up a major. I simply had to get a couple of forms and get the theatre dept. dean to sign it. I don't quite understand why it would be more difficult to be an Undeclared. ....I shouldn't complain tho. lol i never understood american universities! over here we just study 1 thing [ok some people do a combined course] and as far as i know after the first few weeks of term u cannot switch courses.

i'd think that's worse for someone who doesn't exactly know wat to do in life..i mean, wat if someone decides at 17 that they want to get into B-COMM..but then after a year of uni decides that they want to get into advertising?

one of my cousins did a chemistry degree and now hes an accountant!! so basically i think it doesnt matter what u have a degree in for most jobs, just that if u have a degree u r suitable for the job!

why even have a degree though? i mean expererience is just as good. in getting a degree you have to uproot and practically start a new life and you get in debt and it cost a lot of money initially anyway. i was told to apply to Uni so that i can just decline offers if i still dont wanna go (and i dont) but just cos i've applyed, my mum thinks i wanna go now. so she had a big go at me the other day when i mumbled that i didn't even wanna go to Uni. i didn't have the heart to tell her i wanted to be an actress. she'd just laugh in my face. i had this long chat with my dad earlier about whether he knew what he wanted to do in the future. and he kept just saying, if your indecisive, then find something you really enjoy and love doing and go for that. and i just kept thinking 'yeah i've found that thing i love doing, but i dont know if i'm good enough, and i dont know what other people will think!' what does everyone think of PR (public relations)?

Hmm, PR? If you want to get into the business of kissing *ss, go for it... KIDDING. ;D PR is okay, I guess, there's money in it. The good thing about that is you get to meet a lot of people.
I can identify with what you mentined up there Voldie_M, but I guess a degree is important. At least get something that is relevant to what you want, that is, if what you want doesn't exactly need a degree.
I know some stories like that. David Kelley studied law, but he's into showbiz, or say, production, and voila! We have Ally McBeal and The Practice. It's a little twisted, but you see sometimes you just end up doing what you want if only you do something about it. Our life is defined by our choices, you know, and our key to happiness is in our hands. I read somewhere... I cannot remember who said this, but it goes something like success involves risking and sacrificing something, and it also depends on what you give up. I mean, we can have everything... but not at first.
Good luck to you.
