I haven't really chatted on other boards, at least not to the extent that I do on this one....

Maybe someone should do a historical narrative how this board started I have to admit, if it weren't for CC in CoS, I wouldn't care if this board existed! But of course....

Well to be honest COS is the film with the most hype etc isn't it, so that's probably where most people discovered CC....

I was lurking on someone's board the other day, and a Sarah Davis made a comment about CC fansites, saying that we're all "twittering American fruitcakes," who only like Christian because he's handsome. She then proceeded to call all Americans "f***-ups" and say that she would sleep with all the directors at Cambridge to get her hands on a video copy of "Arturo Ui." Naturally, I was extremely offended by this, so I sent her an e-mail. LOL. To my endless amusement, one of her friends sent me a bulletin about anger-management. Hee-hee.

On her message board, Sarah said:
Who erects a fan page to an actor she hasn't seen perform or a character about whom she knows nothing? I ask because I have found hundreds of fansites devoted to Christian Coulson, whom I know none of these twittering American fruitcakes like for any reason better than that he is handsome. As for myself, I'd give... stuff to see recordings of Cambridge hauling out The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui. Imagine Cambrige's elite copping the inflections of Italian-American thugs saturated with the spittle of generations of Hollywood's bumbling stereotypes. It's the Marlon Brando Effect: we can standardize a f**k-up of anything in America. Have at it, Cambridge, and see if you don't ache something fierce in your loins by morning!
My response (please note that this e-mail was written before my anger had cooled):
"Twittering American fruitcake?" Thank you for that flattering description. And I would like to make it clear that, despite your Most High And Mighty belief, there are people on Christian Coulson fansites who actually respect him for his acting. Did you ever think about that, or were you too busy criticizing people when you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about? Also...am I really to believe that you are some devoted fan? I am quite sure that the talented Mr. Coulson would appreciate his fans...and I am positive that he would not call them "twittering American fruitcakes." Then again, maybe that's just me. Personally, I tend to refrain from bashing fans of a favorite actor on my websites. It would be quite prejudiced of me to call you something like, "an elitist British person sitting around having tea and scones and worshipping Christian like a mindless automaton..." I will conclude this letter by saying that you are just as bad as those people inventing rumors about Christian's sexuality for kicks. Good day.
No offense was intended to the British in general. This was a specific insult to someone who just happened to be British.

Wow, she actually said that? She's hilarious. Ridiculous even. Which website is that, Jen, if you don't mind? Thanks

a friend of me said (May last year), that the guy who will play Riddle does look good and the showed me a pic (the only one it had). Ididn't care about him this time. Then when trailer cames out, I started looking about details about the new actors and Irealized, that this young boy named Christian Coulson plays in The Forsyte Sage - which I had at home - and so I searched him all the time and found him - and the end! Than after watching COS th first time - I didn't rcognize this man - he looked sodifferent. ;D

What does this person know about other actors? Nothing, I guess. Everything you can read in the newspapers may be rumours... I donĀ“t deny that CC is handsome, but the first thing I thought when I saw him acting was: wow, I bet he is an stage- actor. I really was impressed by his aura, speech and mimics and afterwards I mentioned that he is that goodlooking...

Oh, please. Like I would even care about Christian if he was just another dumb, good-looking actor. I am not some 12-year-old thingy with a crush on a Backstreet Boy. I'm here because I admire an intelligent actor and can have a conversation with other intelligent women my age.
And just because we're American (well, I'm not and neither are most of the people on the board) doesn't make me stupid. I lived in England for awhile and I can tell you that there are some really dumb, self-absorbed people there who don't care about anything except getting a shag and drooling over pop stars. So much for the perfect English. There's people like that everywhere... Tell that girl, Jen, that she can shove it up her snotty nose. We're all university students, for goodness' sake. Maybe she should consider getting a little more education herself.

Donna lol P.S. <g>.....Jen, that stuff....I mean..those comments she made are funny, actually cuz they're not true. And you know what? Your reply was great. Great. I am VERRRRY picky when it comes to men...I mean, I'm never even attracted to good-looking men unless there's *something* about them (some women are attracted-crazy about every reasonably good-looking guy to come their way--we all know people like this, right?)-----and I think I've inferred that most everyone else here is picky too. If that girl thinks that most of us admire Christian simply because he's handsome, then she's not able to see his uniqueness at all. Which means *she* only sees the surface. I'm used to stereotypes. I assume that Sampaguita knows about the stereotype some people have about those of us who live in and around Los Angeles ?.....everyone expects everyone here to want to be an actor (I know a lot, but not EVERYONE I know wants to be an actor)...to be completely self-absorbed, etc.....and oh, yeah, I loved it when Pamela Anderson said that "we all have boob jobs in LA"----jeez, Pamela---thanks sooo much for speaking for me....I mean, especially since I DON'T need one, thank-you..... the hilarious thing I recall was when Chris Columbus said it was good that Daniel wasn't raised in LA. Ahem. Hello, Mr. Columbus, my name is Donna....I've lived in this area my entire life....and, knock on wood, so far, I think, judging by what I can see, things have turned out ok...... :Dlol..... I think it's time we stop stereotyping geographical areas. Donna

OMG! I am NOT interested in Mr. Coulson merely because he's handsome-- though that helps.
I admit that initially, I had a pretty shallow reason for being mildly interested in his name (when I'd first heard about him, I didn't have a bloody clue what he looked like). The gist of it mainly had to do with my being overly attached to a man (who I also happen to think is pretty cute) who had previously been exposed to his performances with the Cambridge ADC and said "you have to see him in this upcoming movie." When I found out that the movie was CoS, it wasn't a problem because I'd already fallen into the HP universe.
Gradually, the more I heard of him, the more interested I became... but what I heard of Coulson was more academic in nature... areas of undergraduate research and the like.
Then I saw his performance and was blown away.
Does that make me a twittering American fool? I don't think so. I do, however, see the point in her complaint. Some of the CC fansites out there are little more than journals of "OMG he's so cute" said 100 different ways, but that doesn't give her the right to malign anyone's admiration for him. Because, quite honestly, there really isn't too much to say about him as there aren't TOO many interviews out there... and he's been in roughly 5 mass media productions. PLUS she's being a bit hypocritical considering some of the things she said that she'd do for a video copy of the "Arturo Ui" performance. Right? So, I suggest that you don't take it to heart.

Los Angeles stereotypes:
Yeah, I can relate. But the stereotypes that people have asked me about have more to do with drive-bys, cholo/as, and the like. I do get an occasional 90210-ish question, and a lot of people expect me to speak like a valley-girl... It's unfortunate.
Actually, there are (and Donna can back this up) different types of stereotypes depending on what part of L.A. you're from. It's like the difference between what people expect from a person from K-town versus a person from Venice Beach.
Things can be really appalling here. I actually was asked whether or not I speak English while wearing a UC Berkeley sweater in Santa Monica.
But that's beside the point. Take the comments of that poster with a grain of salt. You know you're not as shallow as she accuses CC fans of being. You don't have to prove that to her.
