Okayokay, I think the TSH discusssion has gone a bit overboard Not that I am ending it, but the TSH discussion is tempting me to read the book again, and I cannot do that in the meantime. Oh well. Just an idea, a little survey here. Let's say you're going to be isolated for a year in a tower somewhere in the highlands, and you are only allowed to bring TEN READING MATERIALS (so this doesn't restrict to books), what are the stuff you're going to bring? Whys....?

1) Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
2) Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
3) The Secret History by Donna Tartt
4) Anne Frank: The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank
5) A Ring Of Endless Light by Madeleine L'Engle
6) The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis
7) His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman
8) Hamlet by William Shakespeare
9) My Name Is Lord Voldemort by Nemesis (HP fanfic)
10) The Buried Life by Kalina (HP fanfic)
Ok, I guess I kinda cheated (Harry Potter has 7 books, Lord of the Rings 3, Narnia 7, and His Dark Materials 3), but oh well...That was a hard question!

*"Magnolia" screenplay by Paul Thomas Anderson *"Jerry Maguirre" screenplay by Cameron Crowe *"American Beauty" screenplay by Alan Ball *"Atonement" by Ian McEwan *"Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman *"The Secret History" by Donna Tartt *A compilation of Pablo Neruda's poems *"LOTR" by Tolkien *The collection of Hans Christian Andersen stories *The collection of Snoopy comicbooks
Yup, tough question, silly ME, haha.

I highly recommend "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles. It's really good and one of my faves, and I've been meaning to reread it, but I need to buy a new copy since I had to annotate it for English, and when I annotated it I just wrote a bunch of crap all over the book. Most of which doesn't make sense now that I look back at it. The book is great, especially if you have a fetish for prep school boys...like me. ^_^ Just last week I finished reading F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" and I thought that it was great book. We haven't discussed it in class yet, so during some parts I'm kind of confused. But I do like what I understand. I love his style of writing. I have "Memoirs of a Geisha", but I haven't had anytime to read it. Is it good? Sad? Happy? Basically, will it leave me emotionally drained...? lol It does sound kinda sad, more like bittersweet. As for all this talk about "The Secret History" has made me go out and buy it, but I'm only on the first chapter, lol. (I have to finish reading "The Fellowship of the Ring" by the middle of March, and I'm only on chapter 2 . )And I'm so tempted to read the spoilers, but I can't. I just can't... Oh yeah! Amy Tan's "The Joy Luck Club" is also a very good. It helps you appreciate the whole "mother and daughter relationship" thing.

OH yes, "The Great Gatsby" is really good... it's just that I HATE Daisy Buchanan! That's how women are usually stereotyped, but oh heck, there are a lot of Daisys in this world! If you appreciate Fitzgerald, try "Bernice Bobs Her Hair", it's a great collection of his short stories. I liked the "Joy Luck Club" too (the movie's okay, but what more can one expect from adaptations). I haven't read "The Memoirs of a Geisha", I promise I'll get around reading it before the first half of the year ends. Oh well, I have already finished McEwan's "The Cement Garden"... it's a guy's book! NO, actually I realize that it is a story that implies comatose... I cannot explain it briefly, but it's a novel that's hard to swallow. My sister highly recommends I read Judy Blume's "The Summer Sisters", Blume's supposedly adult (not 'adult' as in erotika) non-juvenile novel... I think I should start reading 'wholesome' pieces, sometimes too emotionally heavy literature (not exactly dramatic, I mean) makes me depressed for the following days! Re mother-daughter relationship, there's this Dutch film I saw years ago called "Antonia's Line" (I believe it won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, it's the same year "Il Postino" was nominated for Best Picture)... it's a VERY TWISTED Gilmore Girls... and funnier. I haven't read "White Oleander" nor have I seen it though.

I will have to think about it. "The Great Gatsby"- I did one of my CATS on it in year 12 (CAT stands for Common Assesment Task and we used to have three of these for each subject which made up our final marks for the subjects. Sometimes they were essays, in art they were essays and folio pieces, and sometimes they were exams.)
