Romeo and Juliet without chemistry?!!! Kinda like [horrible] Leonardo diCaprio and [splendid] Claire Danes? Ugh. Well, at least CC promises to be a better Romeo than [yucky] di Caprio. it wasn't without chemistry as such it was just, u know how when u see 2 people together and u get the feeling that they were meant to be together, i didn't get that feeling! ok that probablly didn't make any sense! lol

Just because there isn't "chemistry" between 2 attractive people of the opposite sex does NOT mean they're gay. I have never even been physically attracted to any man whatsoever unless there is some sort of "connection"----ie I "see" something 'underneath.' Ugghh----and let's not start on his weight (am I the ONLY one here on this site not solely for his appearance? !)

Well, appearance is important for initial attraction, but I agree that looks are not what really matters. And just for the record, I do not think he's too skinny.

That's good to know... but even the lack of THAT kind of chemistry can make Romeo and Juliet a pain to watch. I can't explain it.
It's one of the reasons that I was almost cast as Juliet-- My best friend was Romeo, and we're very comfortable with each other. I think, at the time, there was an "almost possibility" for us to become more than friends... if I hadn't been so stupid and stayed in an emotionally draining relationship that wasn't worth my time out of a misplaced sense of loyalty. But my point is, I was almost cast on chemistry and performance alone. I certainly don't LOOK like a Juliet. In the end, I was the understudy doing bit parts, which was better for me in the end.
Oh gosh, memories! I remember feeding my best friends his lines from off-stage... he got very creative with "remembering."
I really do think that chemistry should play a major role in casting Romeo and Juliet. They should fit together, look right on stage together, and know what they're saying when they say it. Afterall, the audience member has to see those two most of the time... and we have to BELIEVE in their connection.
How was Juliet's performance BTW?

I was just thinking.....it's "interesting" to hear that there was no "chemistry" between them, because in that publicity shot for R&J, Christian looks as if he's absolutely glowing.

Gosh, that picture! You're talking about this one right: I don't particularly like that one of him because I think he looks like such a schmuck. And it doesn't look like they "fit" or "fall in" together at all. Wait, let me qualify that... he looks cute in that picture, but the expression on his face made me want to write something uncharitable on the visible side of his face. He was the picture of intensity, sure, but perhaps a romantic version of desperation... Desperately seeking what? Perhaps the relief at the end of the photoshoot... because that's the impression I got. Concentrating entirely too hard, and certainly not on the close proximity of Juliet or romance... Hope the kinder version of this post goes over well... But I still HATE that picture.

I'm a fan of his talent too... Good to know that Juliet's performance was up to par. You saw it more than once, right? Which did you think were the most heart-stopping lines?-- I'd very much appreciate the details of how they were delievered, if you don't mind. I'm a bit of an R&J fanatic, if you haven't already guessed. I think an intense interest in any form/production of the play runs through the blood after one has participated in a production... a kind of initiation.
And let me just reiterate one more time that I hate that horrible picture... It's like a nightmare... the horrible ghost of Leonardo DiCaprio-- because he fainly looks like him in that shot. Augh! I think that it was horribly manipulated to look like that. At least Coulson is a better actor. Where on earth was he when Baz Luhrmann was casting for the movie? Oh, that's right... he was only 16-17 at the time...
Oh, and I'd love to know if any of you guys have participated in any productions of R&J... perhaps we can all reminisce...

This iis very interesting because I don't recall any negative comments from anyone about that photo before.
I don't know what else to say, except for this: Sampaguita how do you think Christian would feel if he saw your post beneath the picture?

But I really do hate that picture. I hate the expression on his face... And the lighting of it. I was a bit harsh, and could have been nicer. I don't think that he's a schmuck or a t**t... but I HATE that picture. My apologies to Mr. Coulson for my unkind stream-of-consciousness rant over a picture that I don't particularly care for. Give me a little time to modify my crass metaphors and whatnot.
