I said this before, and am gonna say this again... I want Harry untouched and not ending up with anyone He's free to love, of course, but the idea of him immortalized simply as an individual heightens the un-cliche-ness (?) of the story. Oh, yeah, I want Harry to die, that's it... and spend all eternity with Tom Riddle, nyahahaha.

i can't imagine harry being in a relationship while on the massive quest he's undertaken either.. but it could be interesting. if the girl found being with him simply too much and left him, it could heighten his sense of isolation, which would have pretty powerful implications... because isn't it often those who feel isolated by humanity and society who turn to darkness, or even to madness?
hmmmm...

"....immortalized simply as an individual...." Interesting. Interesting because we DO normally associate individuals with whom they are night cohabitating. And a few steps further from that, with whom are their children, whom are their friends and so on. Rarely do we associate individuals with their abstract personal achievements---I don't mean their official profession, but overall, how they've made an impact on the world as a whole. Segueway: Sam Gamgee is a gardener, but is associated most with helping (Frodo) get the ring to Mordor. FRODO---- I was thinking on him the other night, in comparison to Harry. While Sam eventually returns home and marries and has children, Frodo never finds a lover. Tolkien was right in not giving him one. Where would there have been room? Frodo accomplished such an expansive, effective task that either he'd have little energy (physical, spiritual, mental, emotional or whatever combination of these) and would overwhelm himself or he'd be with someone and would underwhelm them. Sooo I'm not sure how I'd feel if JKR finished up the series with Harry committed to someone. Because, as Mandragora kinda-sorta<g> mentioned, it's cliched...the concept that if/when he succeeds in completely overthrowing Voldemort (and thus confirming everyone's [and Voldemort's] opinion that he's a great if not the greatest Sorcerer of the world), he can still only find completeness and satisfaction via someone else. And here's the logic of this view, too, that just occurred to me ---WHO is his equal? Now forget about that mumbojumbo idea about men being perfectly capable of marrying "beneath" their social and/or financial standing. Harry's....different. I mean....should a person want another *person* to be their life, or their life to be their life? This would be considered by Harry, of all people, wouldn't it? Aha---I just thought of something---lol---Tom Riddle apparently didn't spend his time at Hogwarts dating, nor did he after. His life goal apparently wasn't to settle down, so should Harry's be? (that really is a question I'm asking; it's not really rhetorical)......... Donna

Oh, yeah, I want Harry to die, that's it... and spend all eternity with Tom Riddle, nyahahaha. lol sounds good to me!!! i really can't see harry being in a relationship basically for the same reasons that people have allready mentioned. as for ur last question donna, i don't think harrys life goal should be to settle down! i'm not convinced harry will make it to the end of book 7 but even if he did i don't think he would ever find someone who would 'complete' him!

I've never really thought about Harry either being/not being in a relationship much. Probbaly because in the first few books he was younger maybe? But when I DO think about it, I think it's possible he has a girlfriend some time, but I don't know whether or not it would last. I mean when you've got a dark wizard wanting to kill you relationships might be a little bit hard to sustain?

Yeah, but I think we're considering about when Book 7 comes to a conclusion (at least I am)......I can only assume that JKR'd end it with Voldemort's final downfall, but the question is if the last page ends with Harry in a steady/committed relationship. :)Donna

By the way, has any of you read this other children's (??) book... I forget the title, it sounds something like the "The Lord Thief" or something... I think it is originally in German and it's a bit like Harry Potter in a sense... some even says it's better. Oh well, one HP prediction... more children will READ, and I dang hope they will! The older ones are discovering the wonderful Middle Earth tales... we should turn into a society that reads a lot! Reading bridges a lot of things! We should go to coffeeshops and read a good book and not stare at the opposite sex hoping that we'll get noticed and meet other singletons! We need more singlebars! (HUH?) Okay, I'll stop this advocacy here in the meantime.

I don't think it will, but I can't explain why I think it. It's just sort of a feeling I've got......I think I don't make sense anymore. I've basically been stuck inside the last few weeks other than working because the smoke from the bushfires is making it terrible outside, and you can't breathe out there.

BTW: In my last comment I was referring to the idea of Harry ending the books in a steady, committed relationship, not to the comment about getting more children to read. I think that's a given when I consider my brother and his girlfriend both read my HP books even though neither of them actually reads and neither has read a book in years, even ones they were meant to read for school!!!
