When the movie finally started to seem like it was in the concluding wrap up through Sam's speech, I was raving, "I CANNOT WAIT ANOTHER YEAR FOR ROTK! I JUST CANNOT WAIT ANOTHER YEAR FOR ROTK!" ohmigod, The Two Towers... it's just so good! Gollum was incredible, he made Dobby look like a pillowcase! The intercut where Aragorn was figuring out how Merry and Pippin escaped the Orcs worked! Gandalf's exorcising Theoden was marvelous! The battle of Helm's Deep WAS a battle! I can't believe Orlando Bloom finally improved with his acting! Oh dear, the movie ended at around 3am, I got home at 6am, and I think I am going to have to watch it again this afternoon! Oh, I didn't get to wear the Gandalf costume, I brought my Gandalf action-figure to the theater instead and waved it around like a lunatic I am getting impatient. Show The Return of the King PRONTO.

LOL The other night my brother's bestf and his brother were over here and Rob kept bugging me.....he kept saying he "needs closure." I told him, "Read the book." <g>....he doesn't want to read the book....and then he wanted to know who the "she" is that Gollum mentions at the end of the movie---"a monster"? lol I told him I was not going to tell him..... And yeah, Gollum really WAS incredible, wasn't he? ;D They're really trying to talk Andy Serkis up so he gets nominated for an Oscar....I think that if they truly based all of Gollum's mannerisms and everything on Andy, he SHOULD be nominated. I don't think I would recommend the movie for impatient kids, though. I have to admit, it wasn't dragging, but I basically noticed that I was sitting so long I must have shifted to at least 50 positions in my seat. And it was a little violent... but I love THAT kind of violence! I hate war scenes, but LOTR has made the battle worth watching!
*planning to be a swordswoman*
You meant your bro's friend needed closure because he couldn't seem to get enough of the movie? Wow, that's something!
Orlando Bloom did improve... I am starting to see him in a different light *giggle* Honestly, in FOTR, I was snickering during his 'moments'. And yeah, when Legolas got on the horse, everyone in the cinema went "WOW!" Not 'wow' = 'wow' but 'wow' with long 'o'. A mixture of 'OW?' and 'WOW'.
At least they showed the 'budding relationship' of Gimli and Legolas. I cannot help laughing to myself at some scenes where i got reminded of the Secret Diaries. Especially when Sam said, in Minas Tirith, "Mister Frodo, it's me, your Sam!" ;D
Aw enough raving, I know you guys saw the movie way before I did. Am suffering LOTR hang-over.

And yeah, when Legolas got on the horse, everyone in the cinema went "WOW!" Not 'wow' = 'wow' but 'wow' with long 'o'. A mixture of 'OW?' and 'WOW'. Okayyy..here's a question...it's been bugging me...and I guess here it is. I have seen TTT twice. Wednesday night (opening day) and the following Sunday. I saw it in the same exact theatre--the first time with my parents, the second with my brother. On Wednesday, when I saw my get on that horse, WOW!!! I mean, WOW!! He grabbed the horse by the neck, catapulted himself up, did a twirl or two in the air, a shaft of light came out of him, and he landed. WOW!! The audience was gasping in shock/admiration; I was laughing in joy. On Sunday, I could barely wait to see that scene again. I knew that the shaft of light was most likely a result of special effects, but hey!---I mean, we're talking about the most gorgeous elf ever in the history of imagination, right? (ok YES, go ahead and mock me silently LOL). Only....*this* time.....I saw Legolas grab the horse by the neck, pull himself over the horse, and land in the saddle. There was no extra flit or twirl or spin or whatever in the air, and there was *no* shaft of light. In fact, it appeared almost like something maybe an actual stunt horseman could do...and the audience reaction was unstaggering. Soooo.....what did YOU guys see? I have already asked a few people who've seen it....but a VERY few. Did you see the otherwordlyacrobaticsshaftoflight thingie, or did you see the pulloverthesaddleandsitdown thingie? Donna

I figured it was a rewind and superimposition. It goes like this: It was shot in a sequence where Legolas first was shooting arrows on top of the hill. Then it was superimposed with another shot where he arrived with the army of horses where at THAT POINT, he jumped off the horse. So what was probably used for effects, the superimposition, was after shooting arrows, Legolas walked backwards and held out his hand in such a way he was grabbing the horse. Then, the frame where in the other shot he jumped off the horse was combined. So it was actually two shots, because when you notice when the horses came, the Legolas that was walking backwards didn't look like he got hit with the sort of impact, and his jumping on the horse is just too smooth, but there's like a nanosecond where you notice Legolas was missing while on his, uh, 'trajectorial path'. I am not so sure about this, am no filmstudent. That is basically a theory. And well, TTT has almost perfect effects, but I cannot help notice in the Fangorn Forest while Treebeard was walking with Merry and Pippin perched on his branches that there's something wrong with the actual perspective of the trees in the forest that surrounds them. And the animated 'digitized' figures that substitutes the actors as the stuntmen. But then, they special effects industry have come this far, it'll improve MORE in time. And of course, we kinda cracked a bit when Gandalf and the army turned up in Helm's Deep and they attacked on a fairly steep hill. We can't help it, we took up Physics and we couldn't help the pun, "Calculate the spontatneous velocity with an initial velocity = 0 m/s of Shadowfax as he runs down on a hillside with a slope of 60 degrees, with an additional weight of Gandalf minus the encountered lateral loads..." Aw, stop.

I could have sworn I saw a shaft of light, too! But the second time, I was watching very closely, and was totally unimpressed. When you're not looking for it, it just happens, and afterwards you're like, "Whoa." But if you're really focusing on it, you tend to be more critical. That's why I try not to overanalyze movies, because it takes the excitement away. I also noticed that the tower at Isengard looked very fake in one scene. Like it was a small model (which it was, actually, according the to the Making Of book).

I thought Merry and Pippin riding Treebeard was at times kind of obviously fake...but...um...it's sort of sad we've gotten to this point that we're actually watching a movie and thinking, "Is this digitized moment real enough for me?" Because when I grew up watching "The Wizard of Oz" once a year, I was able to suspend my disbelief enough to enjoy the group going down the Yellow Brick Road (even tho the background was OBVIOUSLY just a wall in a studio).....and to actually believe that Judy Garland was a little girl. (Now THAT was a performance.) Those flying monkeys are still freakin' scary, man. For 1939 and still today they are tremendous. (Has anyone else read all of the Oz books? I read them over and over. Ozma was my favorite.) Fyi--- ---I went to Walmart this morning and I got one box of HP valentines and one box of LOTR valentines. They were $2.94 each. There were absolutely no LOTR or HP figures, tho. I have not seen the Tom Riddle figure anywhere yet....I was at ToysRUs just the other day. Donna

i was amzed by the legolas getting on the horse thing the 1st time i saw it, but the 2nd time, it wasn't all that great but i always cry at merrys speach to treebeard and pippin, even if its just shown as a clip on a tv special! i found myself conciously looking for things that were special effects during this movie, unlike i did when i first saw the fellowship. i've never liked the wizard of oz, i think i saw the movie once and that was it!

Maybe the 'shaft of light' was there to sort of like highlight that Legolas is capable of doing such a stunt Oh well, I just love the movie, it has done justice to the book, and that's the important thing.
