I thought that Tom would look a bit different but I can't exactly explain what I thought he'd look like. But then when you read books you always get ideas of how people might look and then when you see the movie you think huh?? However when I read any of the books now I picture the characters who we've seen in the two movies as they are in them....does that make sense? And I certainly now think CC was perfect as Tom. And I also think Alan Rickman is a perfect Snape. And Rupert Grint a perfect Ron etc....

I don't really think you can judge SB's acting skills from his very little screen time to be honest, and the fact he didn't get any good lines really (blame the writers!). I don't think he was in it long enough to show his love of Quidditch and I doubt they'll include the 'drowning in the shower' moment from PoA in the film, I never saw that as an important part of the plot really, lol!

sean biggerstaff's a great actor. i watched the winter guest awhile ago, and his performance was fantastic... hilarious, sweet and moving. i almost cried when he and his friend found the kittens, it was such a tender moment.
i think the directing was definitely at fault in cos. sean seemed almost bored, as though he hadn't been given any direction at all and was just getting through the scene. it's a shame, because wood's character adds some great color to the story. but secondary characters are definitely the casualties in the hp movies.

i agree about the directing in cos.
i've only seen sean in harry potter, i videoed the winters guest but haven't got round to watching it yet so maybe i'll have an opinion on his acting once i've seen that.

The recent play I did...I played a tree...the only thing I could move was my eyes....anyhow my point is, the director gave us no direction....I felt kinda 'lost'....actually concerning the director, it was a bad experience....I ADORED my castmates, fortunately... Something occurred to me recently: the direction in HPSS seemed almost *better* than in COS---maybe Columbus was just toooo tired. Or, it could be because COS was a more expansive movie. Or...maybe we should just wait for POA. Donna

u played a tree?! i thought that was just actors said they'd played for a joke, i never thought people actually *played* trees! ;D
anyway, i haven't watched hp ss/ps for a while but from what i remember yes the directing did seem slightly better than in cos.

Yeah, I really really did play a tree. So I guess I was an Ent. <g> An Ent, all alone, no one to talk to.... I also played a baby bear..well, a 5-year-old bear...<g>....I had an actual bear costume....tuscan red (sort of burgundy---"my" color)....and I wore a litle girly hat and purple gloves and a little skirt and white/black Oxfords and purple socks. I was really cute. <g> Donna

Hmm, small ensemble part coupled with bad direction... that reminds me of an experience I had four years ago. It's part of the reason I fell out of wanting to get up on stage... I couldn't take the rejection. That, and I was a snob who only wanted to participate in Shakespeare productions.
I'm better off as I am now, anyways...
I liked the CoS movie a bit better than SS/PS-- but I think that's because of the stunts... and the inclusion of Tom Riddle. Oh, and that Flourish & Blotts scene-- yuck. I wanted to see the grown men engage in a fistfight. But yeah... SS/PS nearly put me to sleep the first time I saw it. I don't know why, though.

Hmm...well I'd have to say I liked COS better, as well...it's just I guess there's sooo much more to it, hence more criticisms.... Donna

Lizifer, Yeah you're telling me! Actually for me, the whole thing was enchanting, but....once Harry gets to Quirrell/Voldemort...that scene, which is the climactic one, is borrrring. I've seen the movie umpteen times on my DVD but I have sort of gotten to the point I stop paying attention to that part. I'm not sure if it's the screenwriter...or JKR...I mean I'd have to read HPSS over again.....could she have written a stronger climax, or was it simply the script? Or the directing? To me, JKR seems to improve on the climaxes in each succeeding book....COS was definitely better---I mean the very CONCEPT of Harry meeting up with Voldemort's younger self is wonderful. However when I think of GOF's scene---in which Harry and Voldemort have their wands intertwined and the people V. killed encourage Harry---I wonder/hope that the director will be able to convey it properly---(knockonwood that the movie will be made).....somehow, to me, it's more *emotional* than anything...however as we've seen, emphases are often on what demands more literal "special effects." i never watch the quirrel/voldy scene in ps/ss as it's just so boring, i can't say exactly what makes it boring just that it is! but i think it does have something to do with the fact that it isn't exactly the best ending to the book, the endings to the other books are brilliant, especially as u say the tom riddle thing, a brilliant concept.
i hope they do make a gof movie, but they'll have to be very careful with what they miss out and how the scenes are directed and the special effects. i think gof is an emotional book and i just hope they put that emotion into the movie [if there ever is one!]

Yes, Lizifer---YES-------GOF is an incredibly emotional book.....and if done correctly on the screen, we'll be able to appreciate that fact much more clearly. .....Death Eaters' abuse of Muggles....Harry's being FORCED into the tournament.....Madame Maxime's prejudice against her own kind.....Harry watching the one he wants to be with on the arm of his fellow competitor....and later that one dying....Harry's parents and the others encouraging him ("You can do it, Harry, just hold on")----I'm crying right now. Ok...I'm ok....SOB.... oh dear me...ok...pulling myself together.... I read recently that WB will be taking a look at how the two Matrix movies do this year....because really it's one movie in two parts......this will help them decide on GOF. I can't remember where I read it, tho. Donna

Yes SB is a great actor, I saw 'The Winter Guest' over Christmas and his brief appearance in the HP films didn't do him justice as an actor so they better fix it for PoA cos Wood appears quite a bit in that!
