I am saying this is "tentative...." because the original report is from The Sun. However, it's sure to travel like wildfire so I'm reporting it here first. <g> At any rate, if you want to read what this is about, go here: www.orlandomultimedia.cjb.net/ Donna

I can never believe anything The Sun says, plus I heard on the news a few weeks ago that there was going to be no new actor playing Dumbledore and that they will computer generate him to look like Richard Harris, dunno if that's true either.

I know The Sun is definitely NOT the most reliable source----that's why I said "tentative"---however like I said, the news has traveled--even TLC is reporting it now (ie that The Sun is reporting it). They are definitely NOT going to use digital imagery to reproduce Richard Harris. However I think it *probably* was an idea "thrown out there" by someone; it was probably considered at least for a moment (that's how rumors get started)...one news report states that there was "not enough" images of Harris to digitalize him---however I wonder if also fan/HP sites backlash had/has something to do with it. If it IS true---that Sir Ian McKellen will be Dumbledore---then I think they should've announced it the moment he was signed....it's hard to keep that sort of info quiet...in fact The Sun probably has their "source"---it's whether or not he/she is accurate is the question. At any rate, Warners should announce their casting ASAP because it shouldn't have to turn into another Christopher Lee debacle----I even know someone personally who was POSITIVE that he'd gotten the role (!) Donna P.S. I've been around and back .....Now they're saying at IMDb that McKellen has been cast...so it's *starting* to look more reputable...we'll have to see.

I read yesterday at TLC that Christopher Lee would accept the role of Dumbledore if asked to do so. Please GOD let him not play Dumbledore. Young children would be scared, not because he looks scary or anything, but because they see him as Saruman. And since Saruman is evil, they'll think Dumbledore is evil. Sir Ian McKellen would be great! Same with Sean Connery. After all, some of Hogwarts is filmed at his castle.

Nicole, first---I hope to God that parents are not letting "little kids" see LOTR--lol---and--even if the kids somehow become aware of the same actor playing two different wizarding roles, you're underestimating their intelligence level. I've taught 5, 6 and 7 year olds and some of them are plenty more intelligent than their parents (and I kid you not ). Short people have smarts, too. ;D Donna (look down here)

Maybe it's just the kids that I know then that think like that. For example, the kid I tutor, he's 10, and he went to see Lord of the Rings w/his cousin, who's 15, and he said that he would honestly be disturbed if "Saruman" played Dumbledore. That's exactly how he put it. Oh and I'm sorry if my post implied that short people aren't smart. I know quite a number of brilliant people who just happen to be slightly vertically challenged.

No no....don't worry about it.....<g>....it's just that I think SOME adults underestimate children because of their size...just like some adults assume kids aren't even think until they begin to speak.

I completely know what you mean. When I was younger (like 4 or 5) I was really short and thin and had big, short curly hair (oh the bad memories ) and adults thought I was so stupid. Like when I would read to them they would say things like "Oh who read that book to you so many times that you memorized it?" It was awful! Stupid adults [j/k]

Update:
As for the (main?) HP sites, The Snitch was the first to report that it is NOT true---that Sir Ian has said so himself on his own website. Of course, HP Investigator that I am, I had to go to the website and see for myself.
He has NOT been hired to play Professor Dumbledore.
Well back to more Dumbledore speculation......

so it's not true about McKellen? wow...hmmm... i think the Chris Lee guy looks too evil to be cast as the loving and wise Dumbledore...when i first saw HP i was totally convinced that Harris wasn't wat i pictured him to be...now tho that he's gone and with CoS...he was perfect...
i don't know who they'll get to replace him, but i know it's going to be extremely hard for someone to replace him regardless of his resume [re: McKellen]

McKellen will be in HP question is what character. He says he is interested to play some other character in future movies. Now there are only 2 he might be interested in: Mad-Eye Moody and Voldemort. I bet he`s lobbying for Moody cause it`s such a challenging role cause he`d play both fake one (GoF) and real one(movies beyond N.4). OTOH, this guy is so ambitious that I wouldn`t be surprised if he set his sights on Voldemort himself. Well, he`s brilliant actor and since young Voldy was brilliantly played the old one deserves matching brilliance.

Sir Ian as Moody! I would love that. Or maybe he's be a good Voldemort also. Yeah, I have to concede, maybe Dumbledore is not Sir Ian's thing.
You know what, I am starting to think of Barty Crouch. I find him to be a very interesting character. Christian can do a good Barty Crouch... that is, GoF has to be really good in explaining the story of the Crouchs, and I can just imagine Christian during the verdict as Barty.
By far, Barty is one of those characters in the book that borders the none-kids zone. He's very complicated and unDisney, if you guys know what I mean.
