Spotted a post about boxoffice on another board which says that CoS had terrible box office Monday to Thursday and that everyone predicted that Die Another Day would bump it off the top spot. It would be really sad because CoS is getting really great reviews and buzz. I`m just back from late night DAD screening and IMO the movie is terrible mess with no plot, no characterisation, no charm at all. Action is overblown to the point that it feels like comedy, Bond&co utter one-liners a la Vin Diesel, there`s no real difference between XXX and DAD. Awful villain, bad acting, horrible Madonna song. It would be real shame that such crap do better than Potter, by far superior movie and this isn`t biased opinion. If Potty had sucked I would`ve said that loud and clear.
So, watch Potter this weekend.

bond movies and other action crap movies are definately completely over-rated! i have no desire to see dad or xxx or any movies like that! it's a shame when good movies get over-shadowed by crap over-hyped movies

HP has better legs. I assure you (having worked in the industry)... it will be in theaters long after Bond is gone. It's very typical for a movie like Potter to make a ton of money opening weekend, and let others take over the #1 spot, but it will continue to make money for a longer period of time.

Oh yay for that. Was it the same for SS? I mean how long it was going on that is.. someone boost my memory I forgot.
I unfortunately didn't have time to see it this weekend, but I'll be seeing it this coming weekend againn. Possibly twice, since I have a 4 day one this week.
Yeah Bond could smash CoS, but CoS is better, way better. I think we all agree to that

the 1st movie was still in cinemas over here when the dvd was released so that gives u an idea of how popular it was! i think it was the 2nd biggest movie ever (in terms on money made during its release) or something.....

Wow, really? I didn't know. I don't think it was lasting that long over here though. Oh well, I hope it'll be like that for CoS ;D

The proof, the proof that I was right all along! That WB`s focus on branagh, Dobby and isaacs and expelling CC from HP campaign were worst marketing move ever. read this:
"BOND: Women accounted for nearly half the movie's audience, according to distributor MGM. The movie's hip look and attitude played well with viewers younger than 25, who made up about a third of the audience, said Peter Adee, MGM head of marketing."
Like I told you, images WB forced down our throats were not appealing for audience under 25. CC`s balck&white shots would`ve changed everything. But tell that to WB bigots.
BTW, the guy who plays Bond villain is Maggie Smith`s son. He can`t act but splattering him across the trailer is more yummy than splattering his mommy.

Yeah I didn't (and still don't) understand the calendars and poster books etc for HP. In the poster book they have pics of the kids and the old people. Frankly, I think several things should've been done to get the movie "out" there more for teens/20's people who haven't read COS the book: ~~~actually shown Tom Riddle's face in a commercial. It doesn't matter of his sexuality or whatever. His face is so gorgeous, it's difficult to believe it exists, anyway. It's like a sunset you can't touch, the wind you can't see, the angel batallion that an unknowable force placed upon a pinhead.... ~~~beefed up Oliver Wood's role in the movie, and splashed HIM across calendars and commercials. Yes, we know certain ahem people (even at this site) don't like him, and I'm not ga-ga over him, either, but he does already have somewhat of a following, and he's something the main trio is not: OF LEGAL AGE. lol Also, his Quidditch 'mania' should've been noted, regardless. ~~~used different posters:---I even have the 'blue' one of the trio up on my wall; it's one of the coolest I've ever seen; but, there should've been more of a variety of choices, as there is/are for LOTR. There is a plethora, literally, of LOTR posters available for all online. You can get your group shot, your semi-group shot, your individual shots (numerous individual shots of Legolas), heck--they even have individual shot posters for the some of the creatures (!) What if---just think of this---if they had done one of Tom Riddle, him looking really mysterious, even a shadowy kind of poster, and in big words: WHO IS TOM RIDDLE? That poster alone would kind of justify lack of publicity, as they would be trying to keep the character under wraps. Also, with Oliver Wood's somewhat increased screen time, they could make a poster of him, too. Only it could say QUIDDITCH MANIAC. Just like it should (!) The kids are getting older; maybe they're waiting to project this toward a teen/20's audience, but they can do it now. They could've, SHOULD'VE done it now. And what I'm saying is this: for the upcoming role of Cedric Diggory, PROMOTE him. He's supposed to be an absolute god and *older* than the trio, anyway, so cast someone over 18 and PROMOTE him to the teen/20's audience. Cast sexy actors young enough for 20's chicks to swoon over in the roles of Lupin and Sirius and promote THEM, too!!!! Any other thoughts/suggestions? Heck I think I'll walk down the street to Warner Bros. right now. <g> I was really concerned all weekend as I was reading stuff, that COS had taken a deep dive; however I read in the paper today that Bond earned $47 million and COS earned $42 million (in the US). So, um, that's still a lot, and most of my fellow castmates hadn't seen it yet (only one had; and he said that it was super, and that Tom Riddle was "perfectly cast"), and I plan on seeing it again next weekend if I can't before then, so, let's not fret. i'm going to see 'bond' tomorrow i think, if my friends manage to make me anyway! i like the green draco poster and the dobby one but i'm not that keen on the others! i was looking at posters in a shop the other day and obviously there was no tom ones so i was like "oh waht a suprise no tom riddle!" and these little kids were giving me strange looks yeah i agree with the ways they could have made it more apealing to our age group, a lot of my friends like sean b/oliver, even if i don't! and obviously a front view of christian would have appealed to a lot of people! they'll probablly realise this by the time 'poa' comes out so cedric and other young cast members will get promoted!

You know, Warner Bros. should ASK people like us....what kind of publicity they should've done, what they should do for the future, etc! They should ask US!!! Donna

yeah they should ask a selected group of people from different age groups to see which promotion method is most appealing!

Ms Poet, my thoughts exactly! I can`t believe they didn`t beef Wood! I`m not a fan of either character or actor but he`s popular and should be used as marketing tool cause that`s what fans want. What`s been done with Chrisitan, the whole overlook thing is a crime. I`ve never seen a promising actor to be treated like this, as if he doesn`t exist, as if his contribution is zero. No wonder that their wrong marketing backfires now. Also, no matter how great Branagh is as Lockhart the character is supposed to be Brad Pitt of wizarding world and I`m sorry but Branagh is anything but. It just doesn`t make sense that 12 years old girls drool over him. No way! If they cast Pitt or James van der Beek it would make sense but branagh? Don`t make me laugh! Hugh Grant wouldn`t be able to jump-start 12 years old girl`s heart because he`s too old and girls of that age view him as ancient. But someone in WB honestly believed that branagh and Isaacs will score high with audience 25 especially women just because a few very loud Internet ladies happen to drool over alan Rickman so they thought all Potter fans, existing and potential converts, are into old(er) men. What jerks!

[quote author=Romana l What`s been done with Chrisitan, the whole overlook thing is a crime. I`ve never seen a promising actor to be treated like this, as if he doesn`t exist, as if his contribution is zero. ~~~His name wasn't even in the supporting cast!! And regardless of his face, his performance was absolutely riveting (at the risk of me sounding cliche). Also, no matter how great Branagh is as Lockhart the character is supposed to be Brad Pitt of wizarding world and I`m sorry but Branagh is anything but. It just doesn`t make sense that 12 years old girls drool over him. ~~~I think they should've cut the whole "let's have the girls gaze up at him adoringly". It didn't even figure further in the plotline. Yes, a lot of it is in the 'attitude,' which Branagh definitely had, but like I said before, I don't buy 12-yr-olds having crushes on him! Hmm...I'm trying to think of someone European.....Jude Law, maybe? I've seen almost every one of his films and he can be funny and snotty!!! Ewan McGregor...there's even a slight resemblance to Branagh...only Ewan is younger and can be ever-so-much-more good-looking! Either one of them, or someone in their age group, would've made Mrs. Weasley and her fellow housewives look *that* much sillier in Flourish&Blotts! Unfortunately, Columbus was looking mostly at the aspect of Lockhart being conveyed a fake and not at the heartthrob believability factor. Is there anyone else over there in Europe, you European gals, who could've played Lockhart? I mean, heck, someone who is even an "unknown?" Donna
